  The end of the PE pipe is usually at a 90-degree angle to the pipe to achieve a flat and uniform termination. The reason is that Plain-end pipes are used in combination with slide-in flanges, socket welding fittings and flanges. Both styles require fillet welding on one or both sides of the fitting or flange and the bottom of the fitting or flange. Where applicable, the flat end is usually placed at "⅛" of the pipe placement position in order to generate thermal expansion during the welding process.
